Where am I?

Mathematics Degree

Mathematics is the international language that bridges barriers and builds the skills necessary for so many disciplines. Mathematicians solve, imagine and create the equations and theories that help the world keep moving and changing.

At Fontbonne, students can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in either mathematics for secondary education or applied mathematics. The first offers a balanced curriculum combining mathematical theory with practical application and classroom experience while preparing students for Missouri certification to teach high school mathematics. The second offers a sound foundation in both discrete and continuous mathematics as applied in business or the sciences.

The curriculum for both programs creates sophisticated learners who can effectively analyze, solve and communicate. Whether you want to become a teacher, pursue graduate school or start an exciting career, the mathematics majors at Fontbonne set you on the right course.

Why Fontbonne?

Our small class sizes, open door policy for students and easy access to resources help ensure that you get the most out of your time here. At Fontbonne, you work closely with talented faculty who serve as teachers and mentors. We infuse technology into our mathematics programs, giving students the edge they need for graduate school or the professional world.

But the benefits don’t end there. You also have the opportunity to earn a dual degree in applied mathematics and engineering in just five years. Fontbonne has an agreement with Washington University in St. Louis that allows you to apply to the engineering school during your junior year. You can earn a math degree from Fontbonne and a bachelor’s in engineering from Washington University.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

Our graduates become mathematics teachers, research mathematicians, statisticians, actuaries, economists, buyers, sales representatives, computer scientists, engineers, lawyers and medical doctors, just to name a few career choices. Students can also look to insurance agencies, financial firms and government and non-profit agencies for exciting opportunities.

Many mathematics graduates are hired because they possess excellent logical, quantitative and technical capabilities. Businesses need people who can analyze and synthesize data. Organizations need people who can manage budgets, draw conclusions from numbers and make decisions based on that information. Our degree in mathematics gives you an edge in these particular markets. Pick a complementing minor such as computer science, business or psychology to help round out your education.
