Earning College Degrees Part of Family's Plan
"Mom, why don't you get started on your degree?"
Before he started college himself, 19-year-old Jonathan Granderson encouraged his mother, Leia, to do the same. The second year pre-med student has always known his mother understood the value of education.
"Having a college education has always been a goal of mine, and finally, finally the timing is right," said Leia Granderson. "All three of my kids told me I should go back to school."
A mother of three with a full-time job and many other pursuits and passions, Granderson knew she would have to find just the right program, one that was flexible and would give her the opportunity to work and learn alongside other adults.
The Fontbonne University OPTIONS Gateway curriculum fit the bill. Designed as an introduction to higher education, OPTIONS Gateway provides a foundation for adults just like Leia, who aspire to a bachelor's degree but have little or no college credit.
After finishing Gateway, Granderson will pursue a bachelor's degree in business administration, just one of several accelerated undergraduate and graduate degrees offered by Fontbonne OPTIONS.
With its main campus located in Clayton, the university also has OPTIONS classroom sites in North County, South County, Chesterfield and downtown St. Louis.
