Holidays Give Fontbonne a Chance to Save Soles

ST. LOUIS — Fontbonne University is teaming up with St. Louis-based Comfort Shoe Specialists October through December to collect shoes for Soles4Souls, a non-profit organization that provides shoes for people in need around the world. Fontbonne has placed drop-off containers around its Clayton campus in order to collect new and gently used shoes.

The “Bleacher Sneaker” service project is part of Fontbonne’s annual Christmas Around Campus event Dec. 6, a celebration of the holiday season for students, faculty, staff, alumni and their families. The university hopes to collect more than 3,600 pairs of shoes, according to Linda Cronin, a member of the university’s institutional advancement office and the coordinator of the Bleacher Sneaker project.

“Comfort Shoe Specialists is excited for the opportunity to team up with Fontbonne University and help raise awareness of Soles4Souls, an organization that we work with all year long,” said Gary Bufalo, general manager, Comfort Shoe Specialists. “We all have shoes in our closet that do not get worn, so it only makes sense to donate them to an organization that is dedicated to helping those in need.”

Shoes will be collected, displayed on the university’s Mabee Gymnasium bleachers, and presented to representatives from Soles4Souls on Sunday, Dec. 6, during the Christmas Around Campus celebration from 4-7 p.m.
