Fontbonne hires new women's field hockey coach

March 25, 2010 - The Fontbonne University athletic department is pleased to announce its hired Maria Schiavello as its new head women’s field hockey coach.

Coach Schiavello has begun working to build a women’s field hockey program at Fontbonne that will begin competing in the fall of the 2010. Fontbonne will be the only NCAA Div. III institution in Missouri and one of a very few in the Midwest region to offer a NCAA sanctioned women’s field hockey program.

Coach Schiavello is a United States Field Hockey Association (USFHA) Level I coach as well as a USFHA official. She is a “FUTURES” coach for USA Developmental Field Hockey and was the head girl’s lacrosse coach for Parkway High School during the team’s transition from club to varsity. Coach Schiavello brings a great deal of experience coaching youth league and club field hockey teams for Gateway Field Hockey to Fontbonne.

“We are excited to have Coach Schiavello leading the Fontbonne women’s field hockey program,” stated Maria Eftink, Associate AD/SWA. “Her knowledge of the game and connections within the field hockey community leave us very excited about developing women’s field hockey at Fontbonne.”

Coach Schiavello is a graduate of West Chester University and Ohio State University, where she played lacrosse and field hockey.
