Fontbonne Names Lehrer Vice President for Institutional Advancement

ST. LOUIS – Fontbonne University has appointed Sandra G. Lehrer as vice president for institutional advancement. She succeeds Marilyn Sheperd.

Lehrer, a Fontbonne alumna, most recently served as president and chief executive officer of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of St. Louis, which grew to include responsibilities in southern Illinois, Springfield, Mo., and the greater Kansas City area. She retired from the organization in 2009 after 12 years of outstanding leadership. Prior positions include executive director of Coro Midwestern Center and president of Lehrer and Associates, an independent consulting firm specializing in board development, strategic planning and fundraising.

“I am extremely pleased that Sandy has agreed to join Fontbonne at this particular time,” said Dr. Dennis Golden, Fontbonne president. “Because she is a graduate and has remained connected to Fontbonne, Sandy brings a unique understanding of the university which will match very well with her outstanding capabilities in both friend-raising and fundraising. She is a highly motivated person and a strategic thinker with a proven record of success, qualities which are essential as Fontbonne continues its forward progress.”

Lehrer has strong ties to the university. In addition to her status as an alumna, she has served as a member of the university’s Council of Regents and is a member of the Fontbonne Community Connection, a women’s giving circle. She has also received two Distinguished Alumni Association recognitions. Most recently, she helped establish one of Fontbonne’s newest graduate degree programs, the Master of Science in Nonprofit Management, a program within Eckelkamp College of Global Business and Professional Studies.

“As an alumna of Fontbonne University, I am especially honored to be appointed to this position,” Lehrer said. “I believe that a successful advancement effort requires a passion for Fontbonne’s mission, a dedication to reaching the university’s fundraising goals and a strong partnership among the school’s community leaders, administration, faculty and supporters. Such a program will transform Fontbonne’s vision for tomorrow into reality and provide the gift of academic excellence to all of our students.”
