Dr. Dennis GoldenDr. Dennis GoldenDennis C. Golden

Dr. Dennis C. Golden is President and Professor of Education at Fontbonne University,

St. Louis, Missouri.  Golden was born and raised in Queens, New York.  He is a graduate of Holy Cross High School (1959), College of the Holy Cross (BS, 1963), Assumption College (MA, Guidance and Counseling 1969) and Boston College (Ed.D., Higher Education Administration 1974).  He also attended the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management (1993) and the Harvard University Seminar for New Presidents (1995).


Prior to his career in higher education, Golden served as an active duty officer in the United States Marine Corps (1963-1966).  He was also a Marine Reserve Officer attaining the rank of Captain.


In service to higher education, Golden has been a member of numerous college and university accreditation teams. He has written, published and consulted about law and higher education, executive leadership, enrollment management, strategic planning, student affairs, intercollegiate athletics, community service and the presidency.  In addition, he has a national reputation regarding pluralism and diversity.


During his academic career, Golden taught at Duquesne University, the University of Louisville, Fontbonne University, and the University of Missouri St. Louis.  Prior to becoming President of Fontbonne University in 1995, Golden held the position of Senior Student Affairs Officer at Framingham State College (1969-82), Duquesne University (1982-87) and the University of Louisville (1988-1994). 


Golden was a Division I scholarship student-athlete at the College of the Holy Cross, a member of the Quantico, VA 1963 Armed Forces National Championship football team and a draftee of the NFL Dallas Cowboys.  Golden also coached college football on the Division I and Division III levels for thirteen years.  He was named Outstanding American by the American Football Coaches Association and College Hall of Fame.


During his professional career, Golden has been the President of the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities.  Golden serves on the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Metropolitan and he is a member of the Advisory Board of the St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce.


Golden is the recipient of the 25th Anniversary Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. State of Missouri Distinguished Education/Community Service Award, the Bobby E. Leach Award for significant contributions to multicultural relations, and the Norman A. Stack Community Relations Award from the St. Louis Jewish Community Relations Council.


Dr. Golden is married to Monica Anne Lennon Golden.  They have three children and nine grandchildren.
