Leadership and Service Awards Banquet

 The Department of Leadership Education and Student Activities and the Student Government Association are proud to present the eighteenth annual Leadership and Service Awards Banquet at Fontbonne University.  This ceremony recognizes students, staff, and faculty who exemplify the qualities and excellence of service, leadership, and the core values of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.  Established in 1995, the Leadership and Service Awards celebrate individuals and organizations whose influence and achievements have made a significant impact on the Fontbonne University campus and beyond. 

This year's banquet will be held in the Gym of the Dunham Student Activity Center (DSAC) on Saturday, April 26th, 2014, beginning at 7:30PM. Contact Jes Stevens(stevensj@fontbonne.edu), Student Government President for more information on tickets for the banquet.


All members of the Fontbonne community are invited to nominate Fontbonne undergraduate and graduate students, recognized student organizations, faculty and staff for their extraordinary leadership and service through character, collaboration and citizenship.

The deadline for all online nomination forms is Friday, March 28th, 2014 by 5PM.

Student Awards:


President Dennis C. Golden Award (1)

Nomination Form: President Dennis C. Golden Award Nomination Form

This award recognizes a student who exemplifies academic performance, co-curricular achievement, and service to the University.  This student exemplifies the highest attributes of leadership and personifies the objectives of Fontbonne University’s Mission Statement. 

Consideration for recognition is based on the following criteria:

  • Has demonstrated visionary leadership in coordinating cross-campus actions that involve the cooperation and collaboration of additional individuals and/or organizations;
  • Has demonstrated excellence in helping the University fulfill its mission of teaching, research, and community service;
  • Has established activities or programs that enhance the undergraduate and/or graduate student experience on campus;
  • Has contributed to the development and enhancement of co--‐curricular activities at the University;
  • Has worked to improve the quality of the student experience at the university;
  • Has demonstrated a commitment to the local, provincial, national and/or international community through volunteer work;
  • Has contributed to a sense of community and pride at Fontbonne University.

Senior Hall of Fame (3)

This award recognizes up to three graduating seniors who have made an exceptional contribution of time and energy for the improvement of student life during their academic years at Fontbonne University. Hall of Fame students have demonstrated outstanding scholarship, leadership, involvement, and service throughout their career at Fontbonne University.

Consideration for recognition is based on the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a full time student and is a graduating senior;
  • Has a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average;
  • Has made a significant contribution to Fontbonne throughout their time on campus both in academic and co-curricular involvement;
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the core values of the University and;
  • Has improved the quality of the student experience

Student Leadership Awards (2)

Nomination Form: Student Leadership Nomination Form

These awards recognize outstanding student leaders who have demonstrated excellence in academic growth and achievement, as well as excellence in their contribution to the Fontbonne community through their leadership and participation in campus activities.

Consideration for recognition is based on the following criteria:

  • Be enrolled as a full time student and be in good academic standing.
  • Have a minimum of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average. 
  • Have made a significant contribution to the Fontbonne campus.
  • Have demonstrated leadership skills and ability. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare other leaders.

The following descriptions outline the three Student Leadership Awards: 

1.The Emerging Student Leader: This award recognizes an individual who has established him/herself as a rising leader through significant contributions to her or his organization, team, or staff group in their first year in a leadership role.

2.The Leadership Excellence Award: This award is presented to the student who has demonstrated a commitment and contribution to community and civic engagement through excellence in his or her leadership and service to the Fontbonne University community and beyond.

CSJ Service Award

Mindful of our founding congregation and sponsors, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet (CSJ’s), FISH (Fontbonne in Service & Humility) is proud to present awards annually to exemplary students who have demonstrated the spirit of the CSJ mission to service.  Award winners will be chosen by a committee who will review applicant submissions.

Eligible students will have met the following requirements: 

  • Currently enrolled student at Fontbonne.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 as of the most recent December semester.

 Students who wish to be considered for this award should submit: 

  • Answers to all of the questions in the nomination form (in a typed format).
  • A reference letter (or letters) from a supervisor detailing the amount and kind of service performed.  
  • Information in the nomination form that includes your mailing address, phone number, email address, and parent’s name and mailing address on your form.


Student Organization or Group Awards:


Outstanding Organization Award

This award recognizes the positive impact on the Fontbonne University community and the outstanding accomplishments of a recognized student organization.

Consideration for recognition is based on the following criteria: 

  • Organization effectiveness based on stated purposes and goals. 
  • Positive impact on the campus community.  
  • Commitment towards ongoing individual member and organizational development.  
  • Effective relationships with faculty and administrators.  
  • Innovative services, projects, and programs initiated and provided by the organization for the campus and community.  
  • Evidence of a commitment to excellence and service.

Fontbonne Mission in Action Award

This award recognizes a student organization or group that exemplifies the Mission of Fontbonne University.  They manifest, at an exceptional level, the following attributes and are an active member of the Fontbonne community with at least one (1) year of exemplary service at the university. 

  • The student organization or group integrates the intellectual, spiritual, ethical and social development of students;
  • The student organization or group provides excellent student-centered undergraduate and graduate education and/or service;
  • The student organization or group is actively engaged in university activities through planning and coordinating campus events;
  • The student organization or group serves their community in ways that reflect a commitment to compassion and justice in the values of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

The Student Organization Advisor Award is presented to a faculty or staff advisor who has shown exemplary dedication and commitment to mentoring a student organization.  Through investments of time and energy, this advisor has impacted the organization’s student members by demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities as well as contributing an overall improvement to the student organization.
