Who is eligible for financial aid?

You must be a degree-seeking student enrolled at least six hours.

How do I get started?

I don’t think I qualify for financial aid. Should I complete the FAFSA?

Yes!
Financial aid is intended both to remove financial barriers for students who cannot afford the cost of an education beyond high school and to fill in the gap for students who can afford only part of the cost. A number of factors in addition to household income are considered in determining your financial eligibility, including the size of your family and number of family members in college.

What is the school code for Fontbonne University?

Federal School Code for Fontbonne University: 002464.

What does the EFC number on my Student Aid Report (SAR) mean?

The data reported on your FAFSA is used to calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) value. This value is used to determine your federal aid eligibility. The Federal EFC value is not necessarily your out-of-pocket cost to Fontbonne University.

My Student Aid Report (SAR) indicates that I have been selected for verification. What does that mean?

Students who are selected for verification after completing the FAFSA must submit federal tax returns, W-2s and the Verification Worksheet to the office of financial aid. We will contact students if they’ve been selected for verification.

What loans are available to me?

Most graduate students who receive federal financial aid do so in the form of the Federal Stafford Loan. Generally students are awarded enough loan money to pay for tuition, fees and books.

The Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan does not accrue interest while you are in school. The Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan accrues interest while you are in school. Both types of Federal Stafford Loans do not require repayment until six months after either graduation or cessation of half time enrollment. Students are given ten years to repay the loan and interest is capped at 8.25%. This loan is guaranteed regardless of your credit history.

If you plan on enrolling for less than six hours, there are some lenders that offer Alternative Loans. Interest rates vary but are typically a little higher than subsidized and unsubsidized loans.

What if I don’t want to take out a loan?

Other than paying out of pocket, there are a couple of choices. If you live near the Fontbonne campus, you may be eligible for a Graduate Assistantship.
