Institutional aid and scholarships are considered gift aid—meaning you do not have to pay them back—and come directly from Fontbonne. Institutional scholarships may only be applied toward tuition. If you receive grants or scholarships that are required to pay towards tuition (i.e. tuition exchanges, tuition remissions, some Federal scholarship programs, and some private scholarship programs), your institutional scholarships will be reduced. Should you receive any type of grant or scholarship which is not required to pay toward tuition, your institutional aid will not be changed. Most outside scholarships will not impact your gift aid.
Fontbonne Family Award is a tuition reduction award and applies when two or more members of an immediate family enroll simultaneously as full-time undergraduate Fontbonne students. The reduction is $250 per semester per student. These awards are made through the Financial Aid Office upon request of the students and demonstration of eligibility.
Fontbonne Grants are institutional grants made to full-time undergraduate students with demonstrated need. No separate application is required; a student is automatically considered for this funding when he or she has filed the FAFSA.
Students who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Fontbonne are eligible for a 15% discount on their graduate tuition. This discount may exclude some laboratory and studio courses and must be requested each semester.
In appreciation of the services offered to our community by educators at all levels, Fontbonne University offers a 15% discount to qualified individuals enrolled in graduate coursework. Qualified educators include those who work at least half-time in a nursery school, a pre-K through 12 school system or post-secondary institution. A discount application form is available from the Fontbonne admission representative or program director with whom you are working. The form can be found in the Office of Student Services. The form must be completed each semester or enrollment term to receive the discount.
Loans are a reality for most students attending college today. Since loans must be repaid with interest, we encourage our students to borrow the lowest financial obligation needed to meet their expenses.
The Subsidized Direct loan is available to students who have filed the FAFSA and demonstrate financial need. This loan is subject to both yearly and aggregate limits, as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. A Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling must be completed by the student before loan money is released to the school.
The Unsubsidized Direct loan is available to students who have filed the FAFSA, and does not require financial need. This loan is subject to both yearly and aggregate limits, as defined by the U.S. Department of Education. A Direct Loan Master Promissory Note and Entrance Counseling must be completed by the student before loan money is released to the school.

1 Student answered “yes” to any question in Step 3 on the FAFSA. These loan limits also apply to dependent undergraduate students whose parents were denied a Federal Direct Parent PLUS loan due to adverse credit history.
2 Students enrolled in a Masters, Doctoral or Specialist degree-granting program.
3 Includes amounts received as an undergraduate student.
Federal Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) are available to the parents of dependent, undergraduate degree-seeking students. This is a non-need based loan and its availability is based upon a credit check and should only be applied for after eligibility for the Stafford Loan has been determined. The loan limit is the budgeted cost of education minus other financial aid. Please visit studentloans.gov for more information.
The Grad PLUS Loan is a low interest, federally backed student loan guaranteed by the U.S. Government for students pursuing a Graduate level degree. Like its undergraduate counterpart, the Grad PLUS Loan can be used to pay for the total cost of education less any aid you’ve already been awarded. Also, like the undergraduate version, eligibility for the Graduate PLUS Loan is dependent on the borrower’s credit rating. Please visit studentloans.gov for more information.
Alternative, or private, loans are credit-based products from independent lenders. If the borrower does not have established credit, a co-signer is recommended. Options exist for students and parents.

Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor’s, graduate, or professional degree.
The funds for a Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) are appropriated by the Federal Government and made available through institutions of higher education to full-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students who have exceptional financial need. There is limited funding for this grant and it is awarded on a first come, first-served basis.
The TEACH grant is a federal grant for students who are pursuing coursework needed to begin a career in teaching. Recipients of the TEACH grant must complete four years of teaching in a high-need field at a low-income school. Failure to complete the service requirements will result in the conversion of the grant to an unsubsidized loan. Interested students should contact their financial aid counselor to see if they are eligible for the grant.
The Access Missouri Grant is a State-sponsored program for all undergraduate Missouri residents enrolled full-time at a Missouri college or university with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. The student’s FAFSA must be processed no later than February 1 to have their eligibility reviewed by the State. Access Missouri Grant Awards are not finalized until Fontbonne receives official notification from the State as to each student’s award status; therefore, the amount on your award letter is an estimate until final regulations are passed.

Federal and non-federal work-study positions are available on campus for full-time and part-time students. Please check with financial aid for eligibility. Current students should reach out to Career Development for job postings.
The Fontbonne Emergency Fund exists as a resource available for both full and part-time Fontbonne University students. Students who have exhausted every source of Institutional Financial Aid, yet have unforeseen expenses that threaten to impact their attendance and academic success are encouraged to apply.
