Our Mission

Located on the third floor of Ryan Hall, the Kinkel Center serves the academic needs of all students. Whether you need academic accommodations, help revising a paper, guidance in choosing a major, opportunities to dig deeper with the innovative TELOS honors program or advice on ways to internationalize your education through the Peace Corps Prep program or study abroad — the Kinkel Center is here to help. These are just a few of the ways we support students like you everyday.

The Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising at Fontbonne University is dedicated to assisting students in identifying and achieving their educational goals, while creating collaborative relationships with other institutional departments, faculty and staff.  The advising process is an on-going and developing one, whereby both the advisor and advisee share responsibilities. Academic advising is rooted firmly in education, reaching out developmentally to engage students in self-directed learning, creating academic plans and strategies, discussing personal goals and referring individuals to the appropriate campus resources. Students demonstrate a commitment to their education and are expected to achieve high personal and academic standards.

The Charles Jeffers Glik Testing Center

Dedicated in 2007, the Charles Jeffers Glik Testing Center provides proctored examinations for Fontbonne University students, alumni and visiting students of other institutions. 

Tutoring 

The Kinkel Center offers tutoring for Fontbonne University students free of charge. Tutors are trained to help students build academic skills and master course content. Tutors can be provided for all subjects, including math, business, computer science, history, philosophy, physics, psychology and religion.

Professional and Peer Academic Coaching

Professional academic coaching is available to assist students in areas such as time management, organization, study habits, note-taking and test-taking skills. This service is provided by certified professionals for more intensive student support.   

Peer academic coaching is designed to assist students through one-on-one support from other students. Peer academic coaches are Fontbonne students who have honed their own learning strategies, and then completed training through the Kinkel Center in order to share their skills and help others excel academically. 

Writing Support 

The Kinkel Center fosters each student’s academic pursuits by providing writing support as each student strives for academic excellence.

Peace Corps Prep Program 

 The Peace Corps Prep Program at Fontbonne University is the only prep program in the St. Louis area, and we’re thrilled to offer our students the support and tools needed to prepare for such a valuable commitment to global service.

Participation in the Peace Corps Prep program does not guarantee your admission to the Peace Corps after graduation, but it helps to demonstrate to the Peace Corps that you have the cultural sensitivity, leadership experience, and key knowledge that would make you successful, whether in the Peace Corps or in other global initiatives.

Study Abroad 

Fontbonne offers a variety of study abroad programs to choose from, and because you can use your Federal financial aid and personal student loans, studying abroad is more affordable than you may think.

TELOS Honors Program

The TELOS Honors Program is unlike any other. It’s not about harder classes or extra pressure. It’s not about your ACT score or GPA. And it’s not just a fancy line on your future resume. TELOS is a holistic, customized program for motivated and intellectually curious students to work in and outside the classroom toward their highest purposes. This program seeks to help you know yourself, your gifts and your potential to serve a world in need, professionally and personally.

1G Collective

The 1G Collective is designed for students who are the first in their immediate family to attend a four-year college (excluding siblings). The 1G Collective guides students through their first year and beyond through one-on-one mentorship, connections to faculty, workshops, and social events. The program also strives to bring awareness to first-generation students, faculty and staff at Fontbonne University.
