A Fontbonne University alumnus has been named St. Louis police chief. Maj. John Hayden, who earned a master’s degree in management from Fontbonne in 2003, is a 30-year veteran of the St. Louis Police Department, where he will replace interim chief Lt. Col. Lawrence O’Toole.
Hayden’s appointment comes after a months-long search for a new chief, following the resignation of former Police Chief Sam Dotson, also a Fontbonne alumnus, in April 2017. Hayden was chosen from a list of finalists that included two other internal candidates, as well as three finalists from police departments around the country.
