Fontbonne University – St. Louis has been formally reaffirmed as a member of the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). HLC Accreditation notes Fontbonne University as an institution of quality and also allows Fontbonne University students access to federal financial aid and ensures the transferability of Fontbonne course credits.
The Higher Learning Commission is one of six regional entities recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. HLC accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the United States. HLC and its five other entities were established to assure quality in higher education institutions and maintain excellence at U.S. colleges and universities.
To meet the HLC’s high standards, Fontbonne demonstrated its quality in five areas: mission; integrity; teaching and learning – quality, resources & support; teaching and learning – evaluation & improvement; and resources, planning, and institutional effectiveness.

Fontbonne University has been continually reaccredited since 1926. Fontbonne University has also recently been named in the U.S. News & World Report 2022 U.S. News Best Colleges List, which evaluates more than 1,800 colleges and universities on 17 indicators of academic quality. Fontbonne ranked in a number of categories, including #51 in Regional Universities Midwest, #46 in Best Colleges for Veterans, and #55 in Best Value Schools.
Additionally, Fontbonne recently announced its new test-free admission policy for incoming freshmen beginning with the fall 2022 semester. The policy allows students to be considered for general admission to Fontbonne without submitting a standardized test score. Requirements for general admission will be based solely upon the student’s high school grade point average. Fontbonne is the only school in Missouri to adopt a test-free policy for general admission.
