Set in 1936 Ireland, “Dancing at Lughnasa” explores the potential for romance and the lure of pagan rituals in a Catholic family’s day-to-day life. The narrator, Michael (Jim Butz), guides the audience through his memories of a summer spent with his mother and her five siblings (Gary Glasgow, Michelle Hand, Amy Loui, Jennifer Theby Quinn, Kelley Weber and Leslie Wobbe), as well as a visit from his absent father (Richard Strelinger).
“Dancing at Lughnasa” will run Thursday, April 13, through Sunday, April 30, with performances Thursdays – Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. No show will take place on Easter Sunday, April 16. Thursday evening performances on April 13, April 20 and April 27 are Pay What You Can/Pay With a Can performances, and admission is a canned food or financial donation. These performances are made possible by audience members who can pay the ticket price or more to support those who have limited resources. All performances are located at the Fontbonne University Fine Arts Theatre on the campus of Fontbonne University in Clayton.
