New social work course helps Jefferson College students transition to a four-year degree

HomeAcademic NewsNew social work course helps Jefferson College students transition to a four-year degree

Starting in spring 2019, Fontbonne University will offer a social work course on human behavior and social environment at Jefferson College, a community college in Hillsboro, Mo.

The course, taught on the Jefferson College campus, will be offered for a discounted rate of $100 per credit hour, making it more accessible to Jefferson College students. It also gives students a leg up on earning credits toward a four-year social work degree and will help them transition more easily into a four-year program.

“One goal of Fontbonne’s relationship with Jefferson College is to address unmet social work needs in rural areas,” says Sharon Jackson, chair of Fontbonne’s social work department. “We want to educate students from rural communities with the hope that they will continue on with their education and later return to provide social work services.”

As part of Fontbonne’s efforts to make higher education more affordable and accessible, the school has transfer agreements with more than 20 community colleges, including Jefferson College. In addition, Fontbonne offers the Community College Commitment, a flat-rate tuition for community college transfers with an associate’s degree.
