FLY Fall Orientation

It's Time to Take Flight

Fontbonne’s FLY Fall Orientation program will prepare you to Soar Higher as a first-year student – while having fun and experiencing beloved campus traditions along the way.  This four-day adventure combines authentic, welcoming moments with exciting and memorable activities.  Through these events, you’ll make new friends and celebrate the beginning of your collegiate experience.  Some of these unforgettable experiences include meeting your WING Leaders, participating in programs like GriffinSanity and our annual Griffin Games, and attending our Catch The Fire Celebration.

Mandatory Dates

FLY Fall Orientation is a mandatory experience for all incoming, first-time freshmen.  You should plan to take off work and clear your schedules from Thursday, August 17 through Sunday, August 20, 2023.  More details will be shared with students as the event nears.

Schedule

This is our tentative FLY Fall Orientation 2023 schedule.  Please note – the make-up of the schedules may be subject to change.  Students will receive continual communication from the WING Leaders regarding any changes or updates.  For questions about move-in procedures, please contact Karmen Tovar at ktovar@fontbonne.edu

FAQs

Every new student pays a one-time orientation fee of $200.00 for first-year students and $50.00 for transfer students, which is added to the student’s bill. The fee covers meals, supplies and activities during orientation.  It is to your advantage then to maximize your time during orientation in order to get your money’s worth!

WING Leaders are the upperclassmen that have been trained to assist you as you seamlessly transition to Fontbonne University and become part of Griffin Nation. The team’s goal is to Welcome In New Griffins (WING), and they also help plan and oversee many of the orientation events and traditions.  Your WING Leaders will reach out in late July to introduce themselves directly.  You’ll also have the opportunity to meet these WING Leaders during your SOAR Summer Orientation experience.

Orientation is the start of your college experience and attendance is expected of all first-year students. You wouldn’t miss class because of work, so you shouldn’t schedule yourself to work during orientation. There are several mandatory activities during orientation that are critical to your success at Fontbonne University. If you know of any conflict that cannot be avoided please contact Joel Hermann, Sr. Director of Leadership and Community Engagement, at jhermann@fontbonne.edu or 314-889-4590.

Please contact Joel Hermann (jhermann@fontbonne.edu or 314-889-4590) as soon as possible so that arrangements can be made.

On both Wednesday, August 16 and Thursday, August 17, residential students are encouraged to invite their families to attend our Residents Welcome Picnics. Beginning Thursday at 2PM, FLY Fall Orientation is solely for our new students until we reach our Mission-focused programming on Sunday, August 20.  Parents and guardians will receive special invitations to join us for our evening programming on Sunday – including our Catch The Fire Tradition, our Mass of the Holy Spirit, and our Campus Community Picnic.
